Disney Cruise Line to Sail from New Orleans and visit Hawaii in 2020

In early 2020, Disney Cruise Line will offer families even more ways to explore the world together with the addition of a brand-new home port in New Orleans, Louisiana and a highly anticipated return to the Hawaiian Islands. Disney Cruise Line will also return to Puerto Rico for a limited time and continue guest-favorite itineraries to tropical destinations from Florida and California.

Castaway_Cay_Header
Who doesn’t want to take a Disney Cruise to Hawaii?  After a five year hiatus, Disney Cruise Line will be visiting Hawaii again on 2 special cruises in early February 2020; nine-night voyage to Honolulu from Vancouver, Canada, on April 29, and a 10-night sailing back to Vancouver on May 8.  During these dream vacations, guests will discover the breathtaking beauty of the Hawaiian Islands, including the famous beaches of Waikiki on Oahu; the views from high atop the summit of Haleakala Crater on Maui; the lush tropical gardens and waterfalls of Kauai; and the diverse natural wonders of Hawaii Island.

For the very first time ever, the Disney Wonder will be sailing 6 sailings from New Orleans for a limited time during 2020.  Just the thought of a little bit of food & jazz music for a few nights before my cruise makes me want to jump onboard right now.  Before or after your Disney cruise, you can venture into the city to savor the distinct flavors of famous New Orleans cuisine, visit family-friendly museums and parks, and revel in the sweet melodies of world-renowned jazz music. Travelers will delight in the Southern charm of this new home port, and Disney fans will find magic around every corner as they experience the iconic sights and sounds that inspired the beloved animated film “The Princess and the Frog.”
The Disney Wonder will embark on six cruises during this limited-time season from New Orleans, including four-, six- and seven-night Western Caribbean sailings; a seven-night Bahamian cruise; and a 14-night Panama Canal voyage, departing February 7 through March 6.

The Disney Wonder will also continue to offer the popular itineraries from Puerto Rico before moving to California to continue the Mexico & Baja cruises from San Diego.

The Disney Magic, Disney Dream & Disney Fantasy will all sail out of Port Canaveral and include stops at Disney’s private island Castaway Cay.

Disney World to Begin Selling Tickets Around Date-Based Pricing Structure.

BREAKING NEWS:
Disney World has announced that they will begin selling tickets with date-based tickets.  This will begin on October 16th, 2018 and detailed pricing will be able to be seen on that day.

While there is a lot of unknowns with this I will be watching for more information and keeping everyone updated.  In some situations I know that some of you will be glad that you already have your reservations for 2019.

The tickets will no longer be good for 14 days from the first use and instead will expire on a sliding scale depending on how many ticket days that you buy.  You ask, what is the scale?  I have it for you right here…

Multi-day discounts will still be offered.

1-Day base tickets are valid for admission on the specific start date selected. Multi-day tickets are valid for admission beginning on the start date selected and must be used within a limited time period.

Ticket Duration Valid Use Period
1-Day Ticket Only the start date selected
2-Day Ticket Any 2 days within 4 days beginning on the start date
3-Day Ticket Any 3 days within 5 days beginning on the start date
4-Day Ticket Any 4 days within 7 days beginning on the start date
5-Day Ticket Any 5 days within 8 days beginning on the start date
6-Day Ticket Any 6 days within 9 days beginning on the start date
7-Day Ticket Any 7 days within 10 days beginning on the start date
8-Day Ticket Any 8 days within 12 days beginning on the start date
9-Day Ticket Any 9 days within 13 days beginning on the start date
10-Day Ticket Any 10 days within 14 days beginning on the start date

Add the Park Hopper Option to visit more than one Theme Park on the same day.

Add the Park Hopper Plus Option to include visits to the Disney Water Parks and other attractions—along with the ability to visit more than one Theme Park on the same day. This option also extends the period of time within which you may use your ticket by one day.

Here is what is still confusing at this point.  We have been told that you can adjust your number of ticket days, BUT it has also been printed that if you adjust your days and it raised the price of your tickets, you will need to pay the difference; however, if you adjust your days & it lowers the price, there will be no refund of the difference.

This ticket structure certainly makes the Park Hopper Plus ticket option a whole lot less useful.

I’m watching closely to see how all of this will come together when it is released and I will always do my best to keep my guests educated and help them plan the best possible vacation for their family.  As your Travel Agent, I’m here to advocate for you.

Jedi Training Academy in Walt Disney World

Jedi Training Academy is featured daily in Disneyland and Disney World.  Both have their differences and for the purposes of this article I will be focusing on Disney World.

Jedi Training takes place at Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World Resort and runs throughout the day with approximately 20 participants (ages 4-12) as Jedi Younglings.  The best part is… Jedi Training is free of charge with your park admission ticket!

Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of the article for a full length video.  😉

In Hollywood Studios the sign up process for Jedi Training begins early in the morning at park opening, it is wise to line up at the park entrance before the park even opens.  You will sign up at the Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost located between the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular and the 50’s Prime Time Cafe. The sign up line actually begins at the entrance to the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular attraction.  Once you sign up, you will then be given a time and a ticket to return and participate.

Jedi-Training-Tickets
When you leave the sign up area you should have your ticket to return (middle), you can get some neat Force Push post cards.

After you have secured your spot into Jedi Training you may enjoy your day throughout Hollywood Studios until your time to return.  You MUST arrive back at the sign up location, 30 minutes prior to your performance time or your spot will be given to a person waiting on standby, and trust me there are a lot of them.

Be sure to take a bathroom break before checking in at the Indiana Jones Outpost.  While the children wait they are given a bottle of water.  Once everyone has checked in, the children are lined up from smallest to tallest.

Jedi-Training-Line-up

After everyone is in line they are all given Jedi Robes before their training starts.  One parent is asked to walk by each child to the training area to get a photopass card from your show photographer.  Since “Jedi Training” became “Jedi Training, Trials of the Temple” in 2015, there are now 2 different stages in the Jedi Training area (still side by side).  One stage will fight Darth Vader and one will fight the Seventh Sister.  Because of the 2 stages, there are 2 Photopass photographers, be sure that you get the correct card for the stage your child is on.

Jedi-Training-Line-up-robes
The younglings are taken out to the training grounds where they wait for their Jedi Master.

After a short introduction the Padawans are brought onto the stage where the Jedi Master instructs them in a simple combination of lightsaber attacks.  Of course they are using “Training” lightsabers and not the real thing.

jedi-training-academy-darth-vader

Once the younglings have their training well under way a couple of storm troopers and Darth Vader appear and try to get the children to join the ‘Dark Side’.

Jedi_Training_Trials-of-temple-1

Each Jedi Trainee faces off with Darth Vader or the Seventh Sister using the skills that they where taught.

Below: Facing off with Darth Vader and the Seventh Sister during Jedi Training ( a Memory Maker photopass photo)

Jedi_Training_Trials-of-temple-2

Once Darth Vader realizes that he has been defeated and that none of the young Padawans will join the Dark Side, he retreats and Yoda congratulates the Jedi Training Academy graduates.  The Jedi Master announces the graduates to the audience and the robes are gathered in exchange for a special Jedi Training pin.  Be sure to wear this pin proudly to show off your completion of the Jedi Training Academy.

Jedi_Training_Pin
Jedi Training Academy, pin of completion

I strongly recommend the Jedi Training experience to anyone with even a slight interest in Star Wars.

Don’t forget to purchase your Memory Maker photo package so that you can get all of the wonderful pictures that the Disney Photographers take & then be sure and add special Star Wars boarders once you arrive home.  If you have purchased Memory Maker, look for the Photopass photographer during your Jedi Training session & ask them for a photopass card at the end of the training.  They will hand you a card that is linked to the photos from your session.  Once you arrive home to download your photos, you will be able to add all sorts of neat boarders to the photos.  You may want to take that PhotoPass card to a Disney photo center & have them add the photos of only your child/children to your Memory Maker account.  If you add the PhotoPass card number later on, you will have pictures of all of the children that participated in Jedi Training that day.

Thank you for reading my article.

Walt Disney World expands Minnie Van Service

If you have ever needed to get somewhere more quickly than the Disney transportation runs, you know that Disney’s Minnie Van Service comes in handy.

2018_Mini_Van.jpg

Disney’s own version of an uber, but with a special Disney touch, and ease of use through their app, is now offered at ALL Walt Disney World resorts and has even expanded to offer service to select surrounding resorts and the Orlando airport.

Of course this does not come without a cost and the most recent expansion announcement stated that the new pricing system will be based on distance.
